Meeting with the Minister of Labor

– The president of the association, Engineer Samir Owais, accompanied by both engineer Mahmoud Al-Tubaishi and engineer Anwar Haddad, met with Her Excellency the Minister of Labor on Thursday, 5/23, where the association was introduced, and then the issue of the shortage of agricultural labor available for the agricultural sector and the reluctance of Jordanians to work in the agricultural sector was discussed, and it was pointed out that Labor in the agricultural sector constitutes more than 70% of production costs, and investments that were built on assumptions related to labor prices have become threatened with closure, amounting to billions.
The failure to control labor leakage between sectors has exacerbated this problem, and therefore we need fixed, long-term policies in agricultural labor. It helps us to continue investing, expanding, and contributing to achieving food security. It is necessary to sit at a dialogue table that brings together all parties to reach acceptable and satisfactory policies. Here, a conference or workshop must be held to discuss this issue and reach commonalities and easy and smooth working mechanisms. It was agreed to hold a workshop bringing together representatives of all agricultural unions and the Ministry of Labour, Agriculture and Investment immediately after the Eid holiday, under the auspices of Her Excellency the Minister, and a preparatory committee will be formed to prepare for this matter well .
