 Amman Trade: The agricultural sector contributes to achieving food security Chairman of the Amman Chamber of Commerce, Khalil Al-Haj Tawfiq, stressed the importance of uniting efforts in the agricultural sector under one title, to translate the royal directives regarding achieving food security, and overcoming the challenges facing investment in the agricultural sector. During his meeting, today, Wednesday, at the chamber’s headquarters, with the chairman and a number of members of the board of directors of the Jordanian Agricultural Business Association, he stressed that His Majesty the King’s interest in the agricultural sector and food security is not new, but rather a royal approach with a strategic dimension and a long-term vision for the future. Hajj Tawfiq explained that the Chamber supports with all its capabilities the employers’ unions and associations as the safe home for the trader, stressing the importance of the complementary relationship between the two parties, since the agricultural sector is one of the most important sectors related to food security. The President of the Chamber stressed the importance of the presence of agricultural and cooperative societies, in order to find appropriate and innovative solutions to the various challenges of the sector, indicating that the meeting was an embodiment of the principle of perpetuating cooperation and partnership between the Chamber and the agricultural sector. Haj Tawfiq indicated that the agricultural sector contributes significantly to achieving food security and maintaining a safe strategic stock of basic foodstuffs, stressing the need to pay attention to the food security file and the importance of food safety, ease of access to the consumer and work on its sustainability and abundance, in light of the challenges facing food security. worldwide. In turn, the head of the association, Samir Owais, said that the association was established in 2021, and it was officially declared in February of this year 2023, and aims to create a sustainable agricultural sector that has a clear contribution to development and achieving food security, in addition to the need to unify all sector institutions related to agribusiness. . Owais briefly presented the association’s vision, goals and objectives, including: raising the status of the agricultural business sector, enhancing its competitiveness, raising its contribution to the national economy, establishing databases for the sector, and cooperating with the chambers of commerce, industry and agriculture, trade unions and federations locally and internationally. For their part, the members of the Board of Directors of the Association called for the necessity of holding a meeting for the relevant unions, associations and federations to discuss the challenges and obstacles facing their work due to the importance of the size of the agricultural sector and its ability to contribute to achieving food security, and then adopting these challenges and presenting them to the stakeholders in order to overcome them. The two sides agreed to hold a workshop (retreat) for the private sector, which includes working papers and brainstorming sessions that discuss the challenges of the agricultural sector and achieving food security, bringing together specialists from the private sector (importers and producers). The meeting was attended by the Vice President of the Association, Engineer Mahmoud Al-Tubaishi, and the members, Engineer Jaafar Al-Kurdi, Engineer Muhammad Al-Darawi, and the Director General of the Chamber, Hisham Al-Dweik.
